Former president still not missed

THE COMMON CAUSE

On I-35 located in Wyoming, Minn., there is a large billboard with the image of  President George W. Bush that says, "Miss Me Yet?" The question honestly should plague some of us a great deal.

Often  I hear people speaking as though the presidency of Barack Obama is already over, that he and the Democrats have failed. Then I saw this sign.

This sign reminded me of something. For two terms the top Republican was George W. Bush. He was elected twice. His approval numbers were in the 20s at various times, according to Gallop polls between 2003 and 2008. Today's economy was the economy we were handed. Both of the wars we are in today were handed to us. Not to mention the September 11th attacks when he was president.

All of these problems are from this previous Republican president. Not to mention, Bush created the largest expansion since Franklin D. Roosevelt in the creation of the Homeland Security Department, and the silly Republicans want to say Obama is bloating the government. Obama would need 20 years to make it larger than Bush.

The question still remains, do we miss George W. Bush? Do we want to enter another war? Should we give tax cuts to these huge business owners, while allowing their huge bonuses to bail them out? Yes, the Troubled Assest Relief Program bank bailout was created under the Bush administration.

I don't want to go backwards. Certainly those of you that have kept up with this column or the radio show know that I am not happy with the direction Obama is going. I may not think this is perfect, but miss Bush? Miss the President who gave us the USA Patriot Act? Miss the man that wanted to outlaw gay marriage under a Constitutional amendment?

I have never been happier to have Obama. I didn't know how happy I was until I saw this sign. It was like a sign from God, reminding me of one of the darkest times in all of American history. A time where the Constitution was under attack from its own defenders. I certainly am glad he is gone. I certainly am thankful for a change, even if it isn't everything I wanted.

We've decided Obama is not a good President a year and a half into his term - a year and a half where a Senate Republican minority has effectively paralyzed the compromising, bipartisan seeking Obama's ability to pursue his agenda. Here's hoping Obama has learned his lesson - partisanship is the new appeasement (as Spitzer, of all people, pointed out). Obama is a regular Clintonite, not the crazed far-left liberal that as his opponents paint him.

We can't really blame 9/11 entirely on Bush - absolutely, we cannot. But we can blame the response to 9/11 entirely on Bush. People are going nuts about how Obama is ruining America. What are these people even talking about? What exactly has Obama done, besides pass a modestly successful Stimulus package? The jury's still way, way out.

Roudebush, I concur (mostly). I still think you are capable of making a more effective case.

It is obvious the Mr. Roundbush does not know the history or what President Bush inherited. Does not know that the Dem. majority brought on most of the problems. A president cannot do anything without a majority. I am for voting all the Congress out of office and hopefully find honest business men who know how to run a successful business to run for office. We must get rid of the corruption and greed and back to the CONSTITUTION. Freedom is what the majority want and this is not what is happening. This president for some reason does not care about
the history of the Best Nation in the World and neither do most of the Congress.

Like I said before when this argument was presented, if you think we should back Obama for getting rid of Bush's PATRIOT Act, wake up and smell the turmoil(cause he's not getting rid of it, he's strengthening it). Typical Democrat backing a Democrat in obvious failure, it's like Republicans backing Bush.

young adults all over the world, all the time, have your concept of reality. It is only when you become older, and wiser that you will see the reality of where our country is and how harmful Obama and his administration has been for our country in one brief year. I too think President Bush made mistakes but compared to this administration it was nothing. When you look back on the past presidents of our error it is easy to distinguish those with good fpolicys rom those with bad. And by the way, I am a democrat so it has nothing to do with party lines. Just the facts.

If the current fervor over Sarah Palin is any indication, the Republican party is just phoning it in at this point. Obama is not a good President, but Republicans are doing absolutely nothing to prepare for 2012. I don't want four more years of Obama, but it's beginning to look like that's going to happen.

The Republican focus on these lowest-common-denominator candidates is getting ridiculous. They cater to simpletons. And they've even begun a campaign against the educated (note Palin's jab at Obama with the "law professor" comment).

Until they pull their heads out of their butts, the Republican party is going to continue the descent in to the abyss, while under-performing candidates like Obama get in to office simply because the average voter doesn't want another unapologetic idiot in the White House.

Note the comment above: a complete and utter misunderstanding of "logic." God help us.

If you follow this logic, President Bush was 'handed' the Sept 11th crisis by the 'previous' administration. All the 9/11 hijackers were already on US soil when he took office. That led to two wars which are a drain on the economy. By your logic, this is ALL the fault of Bill Clinton.

Jimmy Carter would be an improvement over this debacle of a Presidency. We can recover from a war. We can never recover from $42 trillion debt.
