On Wednesday the nation honored those who have risked and are currently risking their lives protecting our freedoms. While it is great that we have this day to honor those who are out there making the world a better place, this should not be the only time we honor veterans.

Honoring our veterans is not hard to do everyday. Honoring veterans and showing them your appreciation can be done simply by writing a letter.

Most soldiers are always happy to see a friendly note from home. It reminds them that they are not forgotten and we are thinking of them. Most veterans are always looking for ties back home, and letters can give them that

If a letter is not personal enough, you can always send a care package with items that they cannot get otherwise such as snack items, CDs and DVDs, toiletries, magazines, batteries and clothing such as boots and underwear.

When honoring Veterans Day, you don’t have to honor just those overseas. Celebrate those who were served beforehand. Spend time with those who have come home from serving in the military. They’ll appreciate the time you take out of your schedule to just talk with them. Not only do they offer wisdom, but they offer great stories and a perspective you can only get from them.

Soldiers and veterans are a big deal. They protect our freedoms, and it is our freedom to celebrate how important they are to this country.
