Student resource workshop to connect students with career ideas

Color My Career, a program promoted by Marshall Universitys Student Resource Center, much like finding the perfect match for Valentines Day helps students find their major match.

The event will offer two separate sessions Wednesday at noon and 2 p.m. The sessions will be on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center.

Michelle Barbour, career specialist, said the event is a good place for students to begin exploring a major they are interested in.
Color My Career is a workshop for students who are undecided or are not really sure what they want to go for in their major, Barbour said. To help them brainstorm and get some ideas.

The program will offer assessments, that measure personality interests, and provide feedback on majors that match their interests.

Barbour said she hopes students can gain a better understanding of what majors are available to match their intrigues.

Im hoping theyll start thinking about having different ideas of what they want to major in. Its not going to be set in stone that you have to major in this, but it is going to present some options going along with the answers from the questions that have been asked, Barbour said. After they take the assessment they will get some results about the different careers and majors that go along with that. Then Ill give them ideas of what they should do to further explore those options.

The SRC housed the same program last year. Barbour said about 10-15 students participated in the event, by undertaking career assessments.

It turned out well, I usually have anywhere from about 10-15 students at each one, Barbour said. It was just a starting point for them to start exploring further.

With the program, the SRC staff will assist students with discovering the right major. Marshall students, who are still questioning their choice of major, will have the chance to explore what majors meet more of their qualified interests Wednesday.
