The water fountain is free

Raymond M. Lamb Jr., 18, of Huntington, was cited Sept. 25 for first-offense shoplifting. Officers responded to the Memorial Student Center Sodexho Cafeteria for a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant. Lamb took an Aquafina water bottle and concealed it by putting it in his pocket at the register. Staff approached him after his friend finished paying for his items. The staff asked Lamb if he had anything from the store with him. The suspect reached into his pocket and pulled out the water bottle. After he was cited, Lamb was released, and the bottle of water was returned to Sodexho.

Smells suspicious

Sarah Grace Morrison, 19, of Cross Lanes, W.Va., was issued an arrest citation for possession of marijuana under 15 grams. An officer responded to a call of the smell of marijuana coming from room 1414 of Twin Towers West at 1:04 a.m. Sept. 9.The occupant later identified as Matthew Scott Mabery answered the door. It was explained to Mabery that a call was received about persons smoking marijuana in the room. Mabery was the one tenant of the room and was being visited by a female identified as Sara Grace Morrison. Mabery did not object to his room being searched. A plastic baggie containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana was found in a desk drawer, along with two syringes believed to have been used for shooting oxycontin. Morrison admitted to owning of the marijuana. After Morrison was issued the arrest citation, both Morrison and Mabery agreed to see a counselor.

Get your hands off my nuggets!

Eric Lee Straley, 20, of Huntington, was issued a first-offense shoplifting citation Sept. 24. MUPD received a call about a shoplifter at the Memorial Student Center Cafeteria. The suspect was found in the office of Sodexho Retail Sales Director Kevin Madson. He admitted to taking a box of chicken nuggets from the Chick-Fil-A counter without paying for them first. After the citation was issued, Straley was given a time limit for setting up a court date and was released.

Allen Robert Clay II, 30, of Huntington, was arrested for public intoxication at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 13. Clay was discovered passed out on the west side of Corbly Hall on the 1600 block of Fifth Avenue. Clay had red glassy eyes, slurred speech, staggered walk, and an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. Clay was arrested for public intoxication. He was then transported to the Marshall University Police Department to complete paperwork.

Dude, where's my bike?

Alexander Nguyen, 21, of Huntington, W.Va., was arrested Sept. 12 for receiving and transferring stolen property across state lines. A graduate assistant reported a male student on the charter bus who had a bike that might have been stolen. Officer Harper called the Virginia Tech Police Department to find out if anyone reported a missing bike. Officer Jason Hardiman was in the process of writing a report about a stolen bike. When the charter bus arrived at the Memorial Student Center, Nguyen had possession of the stolen bike. The bike matched the description from the Virginia Tech Police. Nguyen was then taken into custody and transported to the magistrate's office where an arrest warrant was obtained. Afterward, he was transported to and lodged in the Western Regional Jail.
