Students can stay fit this spring.

Delta Sigma Theta, a National Pan-Hellenic Council sorority, is offering Deltaerobics today at 8:30 p.m. in Gullickson Hall, Room 1029B.

Paulette Nixon, Delta Sigma Theta president, said the sorority is hosting the class to get people out during the winter and be aware of their personal health.

"People just don't seem to want to get out with the weather like it is, so we are trying to educate everyone to stay fit and healthy," she said.

This is the third time Delta Sigma Theta has offered Deltaerobics, and Nixon said they plan on having it again in March.

The event is free to anyone in the community.

The sorority has to organize programs based on their five-point plan, and physical and mental health is one of them.

"Our national chapter has us implement programs that have to do with our five-point plan, which is economic development, education development, international awareness and involvement, political awareness and involvement, and physical and mental health," Nixon said. Deltaerobics allow us to cover the physical and mental health part in a fun way."

Delta Sigma Theta is also planning an informational meeting in March about safe sex.

Nixon said plans are still being made, but that "Talkin Dirty After Dark" would be a time when students could ask their personal questions to a doctor or nurse and receive their professional advice.

As part of Black History Month, the sorority is also showing the film "Collateral," starring Jamie Foxx and Jada Pickett Smith, from 3p.m. to 6 p.m. in Marcos Feb. 27.

"We are showing this movie to celebrate Black History Month with those people who have accomplished something big," Nixon said.
