The temperatures outside the last two days have been above 80 degrees, however the Greek community did not let the heat stop them from participating in Greek Week.
"Everyone is sun burnt and hot," Erin Rice, Sigma Sigma Sigma member, said. "The competition is so great though that battling the heat is worth it."
After football Sunday, the Comedy Relay, tug-o-war and basketball yesterday, the Kappa Alpha Order is winning for fraternities with a score of 520. Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Xi Delta are currently tied for first place for sororities with scores of 550.
Points are awarded to the organizations based on what place they get in each event.
The Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Alpha Xi Delta sorority won Sunday's football tournament at the Veterans Memorial Field House.
"I was really glad to see our guys play to their full potential during the game, and it really showed because we came out on top," Nick Wellman, Pi Kappa Alpha member, said.
Chuck Boggs, Pi Kappa Alpha member, said he feels the fraternity deserved to win because it had to play the most games.
"We worked hard during the entire tournament," he said. "We didn't have a bye like other teams did, we had to play all four games."
For the sororities yesterday, Sigma Sigma Sigma took first place in all three events.
"Today's events have been a start of what is going to be a great week," Lauren Blankenship, Sigma Sigma Sigma member, said. "I know the Sigmas are going to continue to be strong all the way through Sunday."
The Alpha Tau Omegas were the winners of the Comedy Relay for fraternities.
Nick Phillips, Alpha Tau Omega member, said even though some of the parts of the relay left a bad taste in his mouth, it was all for the team.
"I am going to be tasting applesauce for a long time," he said. "I guess it is better than some of the other members who are going to be tasting that ketchup and mustard. All the bad stuff has paid off since we won."
During the relay, participants had to do such things as pushing eggs with their noses, bobbing for teething rings in applesauce and covering one member of the team with ketchup and mustard, making them a human hotdog.
The Kappa Alpha Order won the tug-o-war and the basketball tournament.
"This is the second year in a row we have won the tug contest," Ben Wynn, Kappa Alpha member, said. "I think most fraternities knew this was going to be our event."
The organizations also participated in a banner contest. The banners are on display in the Memorial Student Center Plaza. The winners for the contest were the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity.
Today the organizations are hosting a carnival with proceeds going to the Huntington City Mission. Events at the carnival will include dunking booths, a chance to pie members of the Greek community, a hot dog sale, and a basketball-shooting contest. The chapters will also be competing in a volleyball tournament today at 5 p.m. in Gullickson Hall.
After two days of competitions the ranking for fraternities are the Kappa Alpha Order with 520, Alpha Sigma Phi with 510, Alpha Tau Omega with 480, Delta Chi and Sigma Alpha Epsilon with 470, Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Alpha Epsilon with 460 and Pi Kappa Alpha with 450.
