The coffee at Drinko Café was not the only thing full of flavor Wednesday.
Burcu Korkmaz, a voice performance major from Turkey, brought the sounds of her violin to Marshall students and faculty at the Drinko Café. Korkmaz is just the first in the activities the café plans to bring to campus. Mahmoud Bouassida, student manager of the Drinko Café, expressed his ideas for the semester.
"We would love to introduce this place to new students and international students," Bouassida said. "We are an alternative to the bar and a lot of students look for a peaceful place close to campus."
The Drinko Café offers wireless Internet, chess, card games and most of the Starbucks menu. The café is open until 10 p.m., later than most businesses around campus. The café has access to loan laptop computers, just like the main library.
Tolga Yalniz, an adult education major from Turkey, is excited for the new activities offered at the café.
"It is nice because it is giving us the power to concentrate here," Yalniz said. "It gives us the chance to forget about class and relax."
Burcu Korkmaz has been playing the violin since she was 12. She believes her music helps both international and American students gain common ground to create new friendships. She performs to pursue a job as a music professor after she completes her masters and Ph.D. programs. She is performing Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m.
